You can’t see it, smell it or feel it. You can only measure it.
- No home is immune: no region of Canada is radon-free, and two neighbouring houses can have very different levels.
- The decision line is 200: Health Canada’s guideline is 200 Bq/m³. Between 200 and 600 Bq/m³ it recommends fixing within 2 years; above 600 Bq/m³, within 1 year.
- Test long-term: a reliable measurement lasts at least 3 months during the heating season.
- About 16% of lung cancer deaths in Canada are linked to radon (Health Canada).

Built on Canada’s radon codes and standards
Since 2022, and everywhere in Québec since July 2023, every new building must be built to resist radon (Québec Construction Code 9.13.4): sub-slab membrane, gas-permeable granular layer (min. 100 mm), a 100 mm capped pipe labelled RADON, and sealed slab penetrations. Our technical work follows CAN/CGSB-149.11 (new construction) and CAN/CGSB-149.12 (existing buildings).
An engineer in a field of generalists
Most radon work is done by general contractors. We bring engineering rigour to every measurement and system, sizing the fan and routing the system for the real building, not a one-size kit. Over 20 years of international civil engineering, and every mitigation is confirmed by a post-work test.
Grants can lower your cost
Mitigation may qualify for financial help: Habitation Durable (Québec), some municipal programs, and Healthy Lungs (Lung Association) for eligible households with a long-term test above 200 Bq/m³. Programs change; we help you identify what applies and provide the paperwork.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a radon test cost?
A real estate radon test is $225 + tax, a long-term test with report starts at $300 + tax, and the full engineer diagnostic is $680 + tax.
How much does radon mitigation cost?
Active soil depressurization typically costs $1,800 to $5,000 + tax depending on the building, and reduces radon by about 90% or more.
