Under-slab pyrite inspection, signed by an engineer

Swelling pyritic backfill can heave and crack a basement or garage slab. The CTQ-M200 protocol measures that potential before it becomes expensive.

What is pyrite?

Pyrite is an iron sulphide (FeS₂) found in some aggregates used as backfill under slabs. Exposed to air and moisture it can oxidize and make the backfill swell, heaving and cracking the slab.

The CTQ-M200 protocol

We inspect and core the backfill under the CTQ-M200 protocol and BNQ 2560-500 standard. The sample is analysed in an accredited lab (petrographic analysis) to establish the IPPG swelling-potential index. Determining the IPPG is reserved to an engineer, and the signed report can be used in a latent-defect claim.

Engineer radon diagnostic + pyrite screening: one core, two signed reports ($1,230 separately).

Radon and pyrite sit in the same place, under your slab. The Under-Slab package covers both with one visit and one core. See also radon testing.
